In its third year, ThinkSync Films aims to search out, celebrate and reward creative, new independent film-making talent, with particular attention being paid to the role music plays. For last year’s competition, we provided a hand-picked assortment of 40 tracks from a selection of esteemed UK independent record labels and publishers and made them available as free downloads for entrants.
On Wednesday 1st August 2007, over 500 people attended the screening event and party for ThinkSync 2007 competition, which was endorsed by and took place during the Rushes Soho Shorts Festival and was supported by MTV2.

On a beautiful summer’s evening, people enjoyed the free drinks kindly supplied by Cobra out on the deck of HMS President overlooking the River Thames before heading inside to watch the five short-listed finalists.

The films were all really well-received, however, Tom Marshall’s ‘bigboy_74′ won over both the audience and the jury, which comprised high-profile figures such as Lynn Fainchtein, Andrew Weatherall, Conor McCaughan, and Dougal Wilson, chief juror and compere for the night John Hassay from Colonel Blimp Productions was there to hand over the prize of £1000 to both Tom and the two lead actors from the film, Harry Mett and Joanne Hartley (’Dead Mans Shoes’, ‘This Is England’).

The party then continued with DJ sets from Andrew Weatherall and Alec Empire, and people finally left the boat in the early hours of the morning after what was a hugely enjoyable and successful event.

ThinkSync Films has already grown from strength to strength in its second year and MTV2 were there on the night to make a programme about the competition. We have now started a call for entries for 2008 on 23rd November in conjunction with the broadcasted MTV2 120 minute special. Details will continue to be posted on this website, but please do join our mailing list for our monthly newsletter!
Our first years competition exclusively used material belonging to independent publisher Cacophony Music but we now have over twenty labels contributing catalogue to ThinkSync Films. Numerous calls for representation by independent labels, publishers and artists within the visual media area led Cacophony to join with other music companies and work under the umbrella of ThinkSync Music. ThinkSync Music now handles over 10,000 titles.
